8 super songs to celebrate Injustice 2

Superhero biffo-fest Injustice 2 is out today on PS4 and Xbox One. So, here’s a hastily compiled but very super soundtrack to play it with. WHOMP! Take THAT, Supes!

Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) – David Bowie

We just keep on missing Dave, but what a masterful musical legacy he left us. Here he assails the title track from his 1980 album at his 50th birthday bash, complete with Pixie Frank Black assisting on vocals. Talk about super friends!

Super-Connected – Belly

Who needs Throwing Muses when you’ve got a Belly? After some step-sibling rivalry saw Tanya say, “See ya, sis!”, she discovered the joys of wonderful, straight-down-the-line 4/4 pop tunes. Like this super track.

Supermassive Black Hole – Muse

Speaking of Muses... The illogical successors to Queen surprised people a bit when this one first hit, amidst accusations of them having “forgotten how to rock”. Pah! We dig its super-slinky glam groove.

Superstition – Stevie Wonder

Funkiest. Song. Ever. This incredible extended jam, played on the original Sesame Street no less, also features improvised lyrics from super Stevie – plus the funkiest kid ever to rock a red top/white dacks combo.

Supersymmetry – Arcade Fire

Presented here live as they didn’t make a video for the album closer, Arcade Fire may look like a cross between ABBA and a bunch of people hanging around at a bowling alley, but damn they give super tune. There's a nice Lou Reed tribute here, too.

Superstar – Sonic Youth

Cover versions have been a staple of music since, well, a really long time ago. Usually though the original shines the brightest. The Carpenters’ original was ace, but Sonic Youth took it to a whole new wonderfully creepy stratosphere.

Superfast Jellyfish – Gorillaz

This isn’t a video, it’s a “visual accompaniment” that was commissioned by Damon and his cartoonish crew. Erm, OK. It features cute dancing jellyfish – and makes us crave a super home-cooked brekkie. But we’ll pass on the jellyfish, ta.

Supersonic – Oasis

The one that started it all for a genuine British supergroup (although not in the traditional sense of the term, natch). It’s still arguably Liam and Noel’s most super single ever, too. Turn it up!

(Hey, we put Damon and Noel together and they haven't beaten the absolute crud out of each other - respect!)

My apologies to Donovan's 'Sunshine Superman'...
